Safari Overview

This is a 9 day, 8 night tour visiting Aberdare, Samburu, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara and Amboseli for wildlife game viewing drives. The safari will start from Nairobi and end in Nairobi. You shall be in a 4×4 Landcruiser Jeep with an open roof-top for better visual of the game drives.

You will leave Nairobi and head over to Lake Nakuru through the Great Rift Valley. Lake Nakuru is world’s popular attraction site for bird watching with rhino sanctuary and big cats like lion and leopard.

Lake Naivasha will be the second stop after Lake Nakuru. Here you shall have a boat ride and enjoy bird watching while heading over to Crescent Island for a guided walking safari near Giraffe, Antelopes, Buffaloes among other small game.

Masai Mara Game Reserve will be our last stop. This is Kenya’s popular tourist attraction because of its highest wildlife concentration per kilometer, Big Five and yearly wildebeest migration.

This lava plain includes a varied landscape of red dirt, thorn scrub, broken volcanic rock, dried riverbeds, steep hills and rocky outcroppings. Following the river’s curves, a forest of Doum Palms, Acacia and Tamarind is a magical contrast of cool green. Other areas of the Reserve include the Uaso Nyiro River where crocodiles sun bath themselves on the banks. It also provides an oasis for a variety of game. Birds are abundant, with 365 species recorded, one for every day of the year. In between the game drives, there is an opportunity to visit a Samburu village at an additional cost.

This alkaline lake is famous for once having been the home to millions of Flamingo – so many that the lake was nicknamed the Pink Lake. Breakfast, Lunch & Evening meal

After breakfast, it is off to the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve with its vast herds of game, particularly zebra and wildebeest. This reserve has the most diverse range of game out of all of the East African reserves.

The Maasai Mara is Kenya’s finest and most outstanding wildlife sanctuary where gentle rolling grassland ensures animals are never out of sight. The climate is gentle, rarely too hot and well spread rainfall year round. The wildlife is far from being confined within the Reserve boundaries and an even larger area extends beyond the game Reserve. Centuries of close association with the wildlife has resulted in an almost symbiotic relationship where wildlife and Maasai people live in peace with one another.

After lunch, explore the Reserve on a late evening game drive. No matter how much you have thought about Africa, this is more than you expected—the big five-Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino and Cape buffalo are in abundance.

After Lunch at the Mara Sopa Lodge, where you will also spend the next two nights, you will go on an afternoon game drive to orientate you to this vast reserve.

Breakfast, Lunch & Evening meal

Today we will be spending in the vast eco-system of the Mara searching for the big five and much more. You also have an optional balloon safari at an additional cost — Many call it a once in a lifetime experience, once you are up, you won’t want to come down, and once you land, champagne breakfast awaits you. Game viewing is great from the air with the opportunity for beautiful pictures. It’s worth noting that every game drive is different from the other, and missing one is missing out on the fun.

Two game drives and an optional visit to a Maasai village complete your day at Maasai Mara.

During our stay we also have an optional opportunity to visit a village of the Masai people at an additional cost to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience.

We leave Masaai Mara after breakfast and head to Amboseli via Nairobi for lunch. The Amboseli national park is at the foothills of Africa’s highest mountain – the snow-capped Kilimanjaro – and is renowned for its many ecosystems and thus provides a wide variety of fauna and flora which you will first see on your late afternoon game drive. You spend the next two nights at Amboseli Sopa Lodge. Day 8 will be a full day of game drives through the spectacular park. Make sure that your camera batteries are charged as photo opportunities abound.
